Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a condition where an individual experiences elevated blood pressure levels, indicated by higher systolic and diastolic numbers. According to data from the World Health Organization (2016), the United States has the highest number of hypertension cases, with approximately 25,000 deaths and over 1.5 million heart attacks and strokes occurring annually. This study uses an analytical survey design with a cross-sectional approach to explore the relationship between risk factors and effects, as well as benefits. The data collection method was done simultaneously to examine the connection between independent and dependent variables. The data analysis technique used is the chi-square test (α=0.05). Based on the chi-square test results, a p-value of 0.001 < α = 0.05 was obtained, indicating a significant relationship between elderly exercise and hypertension in North Sumatra in 2024. The study results show that among the elderly who participated in exercise, 23 individuals (45.1%) exercised well, while 27 individuals (57.9%) exercised less effectively. Of these, 30 respondents (58.8%) experienced hypertension, and 20 respondents (39.2%) had severe hypertension. Based on these findings, it is recommended that healthcare professionals continually promote exercise to elderly individuals with hypertension to improve their health outcomes.
